LEAD Academy students outperformed the MNPS district-wide average scores across all 6 subjects tested In End of Course (EOC) exams.
LEAD Academy, an open-enrollment public charter school, opened in 2007 as a fifth and sixth grade program to serve students from low-income families zoned to attend a persistently low-performing school. It has since expanded to the current capacity of grades five through eleven serving 560 students on two campuses in Nashville, TN. LEAD Academy will graduate its first class in the spring of 2014.
We're proud that at LEAD Academy our students are showing that all students, even those who start multiple grade levels behind, can be college ready in a few years. Our students, many of whom came to LEAD as struggling students, now thrive and regularly place third in the district - behind only Nashville's two selective, academic magnet high schools.
LEAD's student body, like our faculty, is increasingly diverse. Students travel from nearly every Nashville zip code to attend the city's only public charter high school. While our focus is on college preparatory education, we believe that our students greatly benefit from an educational experience that incorporates service projects and community outreach. Each year LEAD students complete service-learning projects and participate in multiple activities designed to enhance the communities in which they live.
